New Jersey Discloses a One-Dollar Surcharge. LegalZoom Discloses $249.
New Jersey registered agent representation, billed at $99 per year. Includes the office address on your filings, same-day scanning of legal mail, and reminders for state deadlines.
Straight up: New Jersey Registered Agent.co put this page up, and the $99 service it points you toward is our own. The LegalZoom figures are theirs, pulled from published rates in July 2026, and left exactly as we found them.
The Name Everybody Knows
LegalZoom earned its recognition. It has been doing business filings at scale longer than most of its competitors have existed, it explains legal processes in language ordinary people can follow, and there is a substantial support organization behind an account. If you want one familiar vendor holding several things at once, that is a coherent reason to be there.
$249 a Year, and No Discount Turned Up
Registered agent service lists at $249 annually, renewing automatically. Our July 2026 look found nothing to reduce it: no promotional first year, no bundle credit, no seasonal offer.
At least the number is candid about coming back. Nothing is hiding underneath it waiting to reprice. What you see in year one is what shows up in year four.
Against $99, though, it is $150 a year more for a role New Jersey describes in a sentence and prices in double digits.
New Jersey Itemizes Down to a Dollar
Ready when you are. Ordering takes about five minutes.
Order HereThis state is unusually specific about what it charges, and the comparison is instructive.
Your LLC's annual report is $75 under N.J.S.A. 42:2C-26, filed online through the Treasury portal because New Jersey no longer accepts paper for it. On top of the $75 sits a payment surcharge, and the state publishes it as $1 if you pay by eCheck and $3 if you pay by card. One dollar. New Jersey thought a two-dollar difference was worth printing.
The rest of the schedule is equally plain. $125 to form the company. $25 to move your registered agent, whether you file the change on its own or fold it into the report. The clock is your own formation month, and the report is owed before that month closes each year; nothing is due in the year you actually form, since the first one lands twelve months later. There is no flat late fine, but two consecutive unfiled years and the state can revoke the company, which is a far more expensive outcome than any penalty would have been.
Every one of those numbers is knowable before you spend a cent. Set that habit beside a $249 subscription for accepting mail, and the question is not whether LegalZoom is hiding anything. It is not. The question is what the extra $150 is for, when the state that defines the job costs less than the vendor performing it.
We will not pretend nothing is cheaper than us, either. A $90 figure is out there under BetterLegal's name, so $99 sits among the lowest flat rates in New Jersey instead of below all of them.
Dropping LegalZoom: the New Jersey Filing, Briefly
Form L-122 and a $25 statutory fee, handled by the Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services, whether you post it with a check or run the change through the state's amendments service online. Every field is spelled out on our change of agent page.
One thing to carry over from that page: appoint us first, file second, and cancel the LegalZoom subscription third. New Jersey keeps their name attached to your record until the change is processed, so following that order means the two appointments overlap and nothing arrives at an unattended address in between.
Where the $150 Goes Instead
Nowhere, if you want. That is rather the point. Our side of the ledger reads $99 a year with an identical renewal, a registered office in New Jersey under our name so the searchable record carries ours and not yours, every summons scanned and uploaded before we shut the office for the day, and reminders keyed to the month your report actually falls in.
One product, one price, and no menu waiting after the checkout button.
